Warsaw 2009: Sessions
Quality Monitoring Challenges in Cross-National Data Collection (II)
Planned on Thursday, 11:00 - 13:00 in Room 1.4.
Coordinators:
- Beth Ellen Pennell; University of Michigan, United States
Description:
This two-session sequence will focus on quality monitoring challenges in cross-national data collection with an emphasis on assessing and documenting processes during the preparation and implementation phases of such projects. The first session will focus on an overview of the unique challenges of cross-national work and the recent development of cross-cultural guidelines and their implications for best practices. This will be followed by a specific discussion of the need for standardized documentation in order to monitor and assess quality. The third overview will discuss legal constraints on what can be collected in cross-national data collections. The papers in the following session all provide concrete examples of quality monitoring drawing from large-scale cross-national studies. The authors of these papers have coordinated the content of these papers to be sure they complement one another but do not overlap in content.
